The 3857470 piston rod is a hydraulic pressure component used in the trim/tilt system of Volvo Penta sterndrive units. Its task is to modulate the tilt (trim) of the motor shaft relative to the hull, allowing the outer part of the propulsion unit to be raised or lowered. When the trim system's hydraulic pump is activated, fluid is fed into and out of the rod, causing the internal piston to move and, therefore, the rod to extend or retract.
